Mastering your emotions is a skill that can make your life better in various ways. Our life is divided into different areas and being able to control our emotions can help to improve every area of our lives. Having the ability not to react to every emotion that arises in you can give you the opportunity to live a more satisfying life. 


1. Be Aware

The first step is to become aware. Self-awareness is a part of emotional intelligence. In your mind become detached from your emotions. Emotions are not you, they are separate from you. You should imagine that you are observing your emotions from outside. Don't say that you are angry as an example. Instead, say that there's anger inside of you. Step by step you will get used to seeing emotions as something separate, not being part of who you are, but something temporary that can go away if you will learn how to be self-aware. 


2. Emotional Triad

Emotional Triad is made up of three things that define your state of being. They are: physiology, focus, and language. Let me give you more details about each of them.

Physiology: Your physical movements affect your emotional state. Next time you feel sad or angry, pay attention to your posture. Sometimes changing how you stand or sit can make all the difference. 

Focus: What do you focus on most of the time? Is it negative events of your life or positive ones? Depending on where lies our focus, our emotions can change. Mastering emotions means not only being aware of them but also choosing the right focus. Choose the positive and inspirational one. 

Language: The way you speak to yourself matters. Are you speaking kindly to yourself or you are always criticizing yourself? Changing the tone of language you use to speak to yourself will improve your emotional intelligence. 


3. Everything is temporary

Remember that all emotions will pass sooner or later if you just stop and practice self-awareness. In order to stop feeling the same negative emotions over and over again, we need to learn how to be in the present. Be here and now. Don't think about anything else but the present moment. When you will be living in the present moment, you will be able to watch your emotions and remind yourself that this is temporary. This way you will destroy the old pattern of negative thoughts and emotions.
