Today I want to tell you about Japanese philosophy called Kaizen. Kai means change, and Zen means for the better.
What it means in general is that you make small changes every day to improve yourself.
Doing something, even if it’s very little, is better than doing nothing. We have to stop trying to be perfect and make some small steps every single day. Small but every day.
Over time it will certainly bring some significant results.
Perfectionism is a very dangerous thing.
Perfectionists usually don’t get a lot done because they procrastinate because they want everything to be perfect from beginning to end.
I know it very well because I have perfectionism as well, which I am fighting with all the time.
Couple years ago I became sick and couldn’t write like I did before. Then I understood that it’s perfectionism that was stopping me. I wanted everything to be perfect right from the start and I wanted to be able to write a lot.
But it doesn’t work that way in writing world. To be a good writer you have to know how to make mistakes and write an ugly draft. You have to write something just to put it out there.
If you have a writer’s block, try writing just one word or one sentence and then you will see how you will keep going. But it’s important to make that one step daily.
And when I started doing that, when I have allowed my writing to be ugly at first and focused on writing something every day, I stopped having writer’s block. I gained freedom to write and broke some barriers that were preventing me to write.
